A&N Media efficiency drive.

A&N Media have upgraded their advertising production system and gone live across their portfolio of publications using the industry leading Papermule Workflow system.

The entirely web based Papermule Production Workflow solution has been integrated with the many different ad booking and editorial systems used by titles such as the Daily Mail, Metro, Evening Standard and the Mail on Sunday. The upgrade gives a consistent approach to advertising production across all titles.

Traditional methods of copy chasing often involve customer specific knowledge with notes written on print outs generated at frequent intervals. With today's reduced lead times the pressure on sourcing, repeating or producing copy within a reduced time frame can lead to inaccuracies resulting in costly refunds.

Papermule Workflow and Copy Chasing is a simple system to use, and web based, it is very easy to install across multi-sites. Investing in the system gives A&N Media a fully automated solution to advertising chasing, reception and production. Production costs will, through the use of the software, improve and mistakes are expected to be reduced. Using the same system across all titles will ensure user consistency as well as quality outputs.

Alex Murphy, PrePress Operations Manager Advertising at A&N Media. "We have been upgrading to the web based version across all titles over the past year. The installation on paper looks complex due to the number of publications and systems we use. However, with the support and assistance of the Papermule team the overall upgrade has been relatively painless. Since going live at A&N Media with Papermule workflow it has already proved to be a sound investment with an improvement in productivity and a saving on hardware costs".

Miles Harrison, Service Director, Papermule "Moving to a web based ad production solution makes sense to any publisher wanting to streamline operations and tighten up on costs. The Papermule team has been working with major publishers including A&N Media as well as creative agencies and printers for many years developing software systems to ensure their production areas deliver on time every time and that advertising customers are receiving the best possible client contact service from start to finish".

OneVision and Papermule: Streamline National Magazines Classified Advertising Production

The integration of OneVision's Asura preflight application into National Magazines content management solution is already paying dividends. This first joint project by Papermule and OneVision has enabled National Magazines to take advantage of world class pre-flight and optimisation software by OneVision, embedded within enterprise level workflow and content management solutions supported by Papermule.

By seamlessly integrating Asura into the existing workflow solution, pre-flight checking and optimisation has become a centralised workflow component. Each user is provided with additional functionality within their existing workflow interface allowing them to submit, check and review a job's progress without having to manually check hot folders or log files. With multiple instances of Asura running behind the workflow management solution, users are provided 24/7 pre-flight checking availability and significant daily throughput.

Whilst users at National Magazines are conscious of the Asura implementation and the facilities that it provides, the impact upon their daily working practices have been minimal with the content management solution providing a consolidated user interface to the entire process. Sean Briggs, Applications Support and Development Manager at National Magazines said "The integration has been effortlessly adopted by everyone with almost no working practice changes and the number of post production issues encountered has been greatly reduced. Production staff are extremely happy with the entire solution."

Papermule joins AdsML

AdsML is an initiative supported by Ifra and the Newspaper Association of America (NAA) in order to create the first comprehensive, global standard for end-to-end advertising workflow.

AdsML covers, in principle, the means by which data is exchanged for all kinds of advertising, in all media and through all stages of the lifecycle of an advertisement.

AdsML will apply to all sectors of the advertising industry, enhance the efficiency of the advertising process and facilitate integration at systems and data levels. The proposed, XML-based standard seeks to make the best use of other existing and forthcoming standards, while adding AdsML-specific support to crucial processes in the advertising lifecycle, which are not now served.

Papermule products will be AdsML compliant allowing faster integration with other products in the market space and reducing overall installation costs. Papermule also has members attending the technical specification group of the AdsML consortium.

Birthday Cake

One This Month.....

It's a year since we picked up the baton of supporting the Engage customer base (for free!) in the confusion that followed the sudden liquidation of Engage UK Ltd. With a large existing customer base looking for support and a dedicated team of techies kicking their heels the formation of Papermule seemed like an obvious outcome. Two months in saw our first income from Associated Newspapers and by the August we'd moved from someone's front room into dedicated office premises just a couple of miles from the original Engage office.

Over the next few months we gradually convinced people of our ability to provide credible support and services, and have secured annual support contracts from a broad and prestigious customer base; this finally allowed us to pay ourselves a salary before Christmas 2003. We also put in place agreements with JDA and Helios to improve the range of solutions we can deliver.

With spending habits learnt during the early months, we've managed to avoid the initial cash flow crises faced by many young start ups. Through the entire period, when we've not been handling support calls, or performing services work, we've been creating our own workflow solution. With plans to release a beta product this year well within schedule the next twelve months look to be as busy as the last!

Papermule Ltd. Appointed Authorised Service Provider by JDA Software Group, Inc.

Papermule, a software developer and professional services company, today announced that JDA Software Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: JDAS) has appointed it as an Authorised Service Provider. Since the June 2003 bankruptcy of Engage Inc., Papermule has been providing support services to many of the former Engage customers within the printing and publishing industries in Europe. This arrangement will allow Papermule to significantly expand its range of offerings for these customers.

In August 2003, JDA acquired substantially all of the remaining assets of Engage Inc., including the intellectual property for the Engage ContentServer product range. By signing this agreement, Papermule and JDA will now offer the former Engage customers in the UK and Europe a growth path for their Engage software. Papermule will supplement its existing technical support services and solutions by promoting a service through which JDA will sell software licences and software support contracts, as well as upgrade subscriptions, to the European ex-Engage customer base.

Papermule director, Mike Hoy commented: "this is a win-win situation for everyone, but most importantly, it provides a way for our mutual customers to maintain and build upon the investments they have made in the Engage (and originally Cascade) software.

The agreement between Papermule and JDA allows existing solutions to be upgraded to keep pace with new versions of integrated third-party components, extended to fulfil new requirements such as disaster recovery and migrated onto new hardware to reduce ever growing support costs. The latest version of ContentServer provides much needed support for Mac OSX and Quark Xpress 6.0 for those clients who purchase upgrade subscriptions.

JDA Products covered by this agreement include DataFlow, ContentServer, ApprovalServer, DigitalAdWorkflow and MediaSphere.

Associated Newspapers select Papermule Ltd as their vendor of choice to supply 24/7 technical support on their Advertising Management and Production System.

The system, Advertising Content Server (ACS), employed at Associated, is based around the ContentServer and Approval Server products previously supplied and supported by Engage UK Ltd.

Sun Solaris and Oracle form the backbone of the underlying solution where digital assets are maintained on locally mirrored Sun storage arrays as well as being replicated in real time to a duplicate back up system. The replication not only allows for the very worst catastrophic system failure but also enables routine maintenance tasks, often required to maintain such a large and complex solution, to be undertaken with little or no impact up on normal production.

This extremely high level of system availability and resilience guarantees Associated Newspapers a 24/7 production environment, enabling complete end to end advert production for the Daily Mail, Mail on Sunday, Evening Standard and Metro newspapers. Key features utilised are Digital Ad Reception, Copy Chasing, Advert Production and On-line Advert Approval.

HELIOS Software GmbH is a leading provider of high performance networking and client/server software products for Macintosh, DOS/Windows PCs, and UNIX. The HELIOS server software makes UNIX and RISC-based machines powerful and scalable servers for desktop PCs. HELIOS also offers heavy-duty print spoolers, and is a recognized leader of OPI, colour management, and PDF workflow solutions. A convenient print pre-check software and profile generation tools for ICC-compliant colour management complete the product collection.

The Helios product range has proved itself in the print/publishing marketplace, and is very widely used amongst Papermule's existing customers.

Appointment as an Authorised Helios Reseller improves Papermule's already extensive capabilities to support, upgrade and sell the entire Helios product range whilst gaining technical and logistical support directly from Helios' UK distributor JPY.

August 26th 2003

Having made substantial investment in changing to an Oracle based Content Management System, Future Publishing has contracted Papermule as their vendor of choice to complete the installation and configuration of their new ContentServer 7.0.1 software.

The total contract also includes the refactoring and partial re-implementation of much of the old customisation and extension environment around the ContentServer core, which had been created piecemeal over the last few years.

This cleaned up and extended code will provide improved performance and tighter integration with Future Publishing's existing MIS system, including allowing workflow information to be viewed and modified directly from the MIS user interface.

To achieve all this, the full range of standard ContentServer interfaces was used - command line MCL, CCL and CIS - each providing part of the complete system.

July 14th 2003
